134: Creative Self Care with Crystal McLain
Crystal McLain and I go back a few years, and she's been a great source of much needed "woo" in my world, and that has saved my bacon what feels like a million times. So I'm sharing one of my personal sustainability resources here... Crystal is a licensed Massage Therapist slash podcaster - her podcast has the same title as this episode. Her episodes are easy to listen to and forgiving. And I'll say it until I die, she has the cutest giggle. I personally am afraid of being seen as an imposter of
133: Sustainable Business Planning with Anjel B Hartwell
Anjel B Hartwell and I are talking about planning a sustainable business, and no one better for this conversation than the Wealthy Life Mentor! Anjel has had ALL the experiences in business, and she uses them to make her the mentor that she is. She tells us how she started and about choices she made that weren't ideal, but still shaped her and added to her understanding. And that brings the wisdom to guide others.Anjel is a member of the New England Podcasters Group - that's how I got to know he
132: Cleaner, Safer Water with Mark Miller
I really enjoyed learning about Cleaner Safer Water from Mark Miller, the CEO and Founder of this affordable, lifetime water filtration system. It just makes sense to have something like this in case of power outage. I'm still in awe of not having to buy filters for it ever, AND that it can provider water for up to 300 people! 1 system could take care of a whole neighborhood!Mark tells us all about the system, and gives some examples of how it works, and how helpful it has been for people who ha
131: Lynne Bowman: Intentional Eating for Health and Joy
Oh my gosh, Lynne Bowman was such a pleasure to spend time with! She is an absolute hoot, full of energy, and is adamant that we NOT diet - we should be eating intentionally, for enjoyment. She'll tell us all about it in this conversation. We're talking about preventing chronic disease and being overall healthy and happy! When asked what message Lynne wanted people to get from this conversation, she simply said "eat joyfully." And she brags about her gorgeous new cookbook Brownies For Breakfast,
130: Matthew Lesko: Grants to Help Make Big Projects Possible
I had so much fun talking with Matthew Lesko! He's encouraging people to apply for grants to fund big ticket upgrades, updates, etc. He says "the money's there; YOU might as well have it!"He worked for 50 years for the wealthy, finding them more money, but now is helping the underdog to get ahead, because he can. He says it doesn't pay him a lot, but he actually feels good about his work now.Matthew is a trip! He has more energy than 5 people - he hosts almost daily a live chat with up to 15,000
Bonus: Farm Skills Training with Merrymeeting Food Council
Merrymeeting Food Council reached out to me to ask if we could help to get the word out about their Farm Skills Program, because the deadline to apply for the next cohort is this Saturday, February 1. If you miss this cohort, they will still take applications for the next. Maine has set a BIG goal of eliminating food insecurity by 2030 (FIVE YEARS), and their plan includes growing more locally.Have you thought about farming at all, or gardening large scale? This is an incredible opportunity in m
129: Real Soil Talk with Seb Jagoe
The algorithm was just right not too long ago that I happened upon Seb Jagoe's Instagram reel and became obsessed with his excitement and vast knowledge about soil and growing. It's always a little nerve wracking to reach out cold to a stranger, but this time, at least, Seb was just so gracious to talk with me and share this message. I've had many conversations about soil health on the podcast, but Seb's energy alone is exciting, and different. He talks about the history of soil health, and also
128: Angela Hollowell: Businesses Supporting Community
I've been following Angela Hollowell for a couple of years now on Linkedin, and admiring all that she's doing with her podcast Honey and Hustle, and her writing and now documentary film making. When she said she's joined a new group that she's excited about and asked if anyone wanted to hear about it, I saw my chance and said YES PLEASE! She recently joined Dogwood Alliance - info is below:Dogwood Alliance is an environmental nonprofit organization based in Asheville, North Carolina. The group w
127: Bronwyn Holm: Nourishing Our Soil to Heal Our Bodies
Bronwyn Holm is an international speaker and spokesperson for Earth Food, a product of living microbiomes to feed our soil, and at the same time battle food insecurity and turn our health issues around. HOW, you ask? Bron talks at length of the benefits of Earth Food in this conversation, and she is SO proud of its capabilities, and rightfully so! She is sharing her message of saving our soil, which will raise the nutritional value of the food that we buy and make - even as a lazy farmHER (Bro
126: Self Work for World Work with Laura Hartley
This conversation with Laura Hartley was like medicine for my soul - I hope this helps you to feel seen, too, because it was a message that I didn't expect or know that I needed to hear! I told Laura that I've felt a call to be more involved in what's happening in the world, but I lack the confidence to stand up when the time comes, and she actually has a course/program coming up in January to help people like me to steward our power and find empowerment and passion and education!Laura Hartley o
125: My Mindful Kitchen - Reducing Food Waste with Janet Irizarry
I loved this conversation with Janet Irizzary - she has tons of experience in the food business to base her upcoming course, My Mindful Kitchen (MMK) to reduce food waste for families.in her bio: "The MMK Method offers a solution to household food waste, addressing a critical environmental issue that contributes to climate change. Wasting food also wastes valuable water and energy, while releasing harmful greenhouse gases like methane and carbon dioxide, which account for 11% of global emissions
124: Climate Education for Kids with Planet Bonehead and Bobby Donohue
This conversation with Bobby Donohue had me so fired up excited for the future!Bobby has single handedly developed an outstanding educational platform for school kids to teach them about climate change in a positive way, so they can problem solve with creativity and hope, and not doom and gloom. He also developed a track just for teachers, to help kids understand some of the more complex topics! This program is now streaming into 86 countries and 1000 schools and counting!Bobby has such a great
123: Man’s Search For Sustainability Author David Auge
David Auge is a fascinating person who has been in the sustainability realm for a while now, so understands it on a much deeper level than some (possibly a lot) of us. So much so, that he just had a book published by the name of this episode - Man's Search for Sustainability. He talks about a book that he was inspired by, Man's Search for Meaning, by Victor Frankl. In his book, David focuses on bees and locusts - how we consider one more valuable than another, their differences and their strength
122: One Year-ish Into Homesteading with Kent Scott
Speaking with Kent Scott of Too Long Dogs Homestead just lit me up, because we have so many ideas in common - he's just closer to the dream than I am. I'm so inspired by all the things he's up to, and in such a short time! My very favorite thing so far that I've learned about him is his community involvement, and you know I'm obsessed with Community Sufficiency - taking care of each other and sharing resources for a bigger purpose...Kent and his family moved to Alberta Canada from Vancouver in 2
121: Outdoor Classrooms with Victoria Hckett
When I say this conversation was a LONG time in the making, I'm just so glad that Victoria was still available when I got back to her - we decided it was the right time now, and that's why it happened as it did. (so grateful for her cheery outlook)Victoria lives in Massachusetts and she has been working on outdoor classrooms for many years, and is doing great work for her community and even wider with her awesome podcast Outdoor Classrooms!I loved these 2 snips from Victoria's guest form: "It's
120: Rapt: Reusable Gift Wrap!
Oh my gosh, I just loved this conversation with Monica and Cindy of Rapt Gift Wrap! Their business is fabric wrap, to reduce the paper waste from gift wrapping, and it's so beautiful! I thought the timing of this was perfect; hopefully will give folks time to think about gift waste before the rush.Monica O'Neil and Cindy Estes are friends who started Rapt in Massachusetts to help reduce the paper waste in gift giving - the amount of paper after the holiday season fills dozens of FOOTBALL FIELDS,
119: Peace House Studio: Sustainable Children's Clothing That Lasts!
I'm talking with Nick Bergmann of Peace House Studio- Nick and his spouse Kate are creating children's clothes that can be bought back when outgrown and patched up and passed onto a new child with even more fun personality! (check out the cutie patootie top in the cover, and also in my Instagram promo!)We talk about the start of Peace House Studio, and the Three Pillars of sustainability: people, planet and profit, and what that means to them. We also discuss Organic vs. sustainability: Does org
118: Terra Mora Sustainable Wooden Housewares
I was recently approached by Mykhailo and Vlad of Terra Mora on Instagram and was just so impressed with what they're offering that I wanted to feature them on the podcast and learn more about them. These two are both 21 yearrs old, and in the beginning of the current Russia/Ukraine war, lost their homes and just about everything, but they've built themselves back up, and are dedicated to building a sustainable world for the next generation (Mykhailo has a 1 year old son and spouse, so very moti
117: Jr Sparrow: WV Uncommonplace
Jr Sparrow and I have been friends for a couple of years, but have talked more since I've moved to his home state - even though he doesn't live here now, he's got lots of memories here (and his mom), so he's sharing all kinds of good tips with me. We talk about soil, critters - cute and less cute, and his first sustainability venture as a young person cleaning up after race track events (there's a pro race track less than 15 minutes from me). He is a real wealth of knowledge!Jr has 3 (THREE) pod
116: Kenya Rothstein, Environmental Attorney
Kenya Rothstein is the host of the podcast Thank You For Saying NO, about things happen in life that feel impossible and hard, but turn out to be the best thing for us. I've been following her for a little while now, and at some point she messaged me and said something like "your podcast is about sustainability - I need to be a guest!" I wasn't going to say no - definitely not to an attorney...Kenya is an Environmental Attorney in CA - and soon adding Washington DC! She works for the Plaintiff,
115: My Homestead Moving Adventure
This is a shorty, you guys (you're welcome!) - just thought I'd give a little update, since some huge life shifts have happened for me - some, maybe a lot of you, follow on social media, so you know that I recently moved - short update: it's mostly going well! Also, as it has been for a while now, menopause was brought up - October is Menopause Awareness Month - as well as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Alzheimers Awareness Month - and the election, and all the tension that accompanies -
114: Natalie Hodge - The Misadventures of a First Time Foodscaper
Natalie Hodge is my very first Virginia podcast guest since moving here, and I'm so excited to share our conversation with you! She just recently (this year!) started gardening in containers, and she is HOOKED! I love her story of how and why she started, and how excited she gets talking about growing her own food on her balcony - and hearing about her future plans-- "they" say in the homesteading world that chickens are the gateway drug to farming, but growing your own food brings out a very sp
113: Carol Connare, Editor of THE Old Farmer's Almanac!
I was thinking that the title of this episode should be "How on Earth did Amy score The Old Farmer's Almanac on the Podcast?? But it was too many characters... Shall we make it the UNofficial title?Carol Connare is the 14th editor of The Old Farmer's Almanac, and only the 2nd woman- since 1792! She talks about the beginnings of the Almanac, and about the great topics discussed (besides the weather), like recipes, fun animal stories, lifestyle trends, and so on. She and her team collect a pool of
112: A Homesteading State of Mind with Rhonda Linn
I loved this conversation with Rhonda Linn so much - we have a lot in common - she's just a bit ahead of me. A big one for me is the title of this episode - A Homesteading State of Mind - you don't know this, but that was almost the name of this podcast! For real!Rhonda is a writer, so I'm going to use some of her words, so I don't make it all clumsy- Her Substack is called Earthen Jar; Stars, and it's so beautiful - I highly recommend! We're talking about Homesteading mostly - Rhonda lives prett
111: Blasphemous Nutrition with Aimee Gallo
Wow, I loved this conversation with Aimee Gallo! She calls herself 'unapologetically candid,' in her podcast description, and I'm 100% here for it. Aimee's not afraid to question or disagree with what we've been hearing our whole lives about nutrition on her podcast, Blasphemous Nutrition. She's not just being contrary; she's been studying nutrition her whole life (since 12 years old, REALLY!). I just love how Aimee tells you that we've basically been fed garbage in the understanding that we hav
110: Jane Lee Rankin on Agritourism and Our Connection with Animals
This conversation with Jane Lee Rankin was so easy - it felt like it just flowed for me - it helps that we are very like-minded... Whatever it was, I had the best time getting to know her! Jane Lee Rankin is a 2 time author, and also a farmer in Agritourism, opening up her farm so that others can come and feel the peace that comes with farming (or maybe just digging in the dirt and interacting with animals), and an active community member. She is also a public speaker, talking about Agritourism
109: Untethering Shame with Kyira Wackett
Ooh, this conversation with Kyira Wackett was so good! Kyira hosts her own podcast, Untethering Shame, and brought such a necessary conversation for me, as every week I'm talking about all of these cool people who are doing amazing things in sustainability, and this week we're talking about SHAME, which feels so important right now. It's so true, and I often think about people who feel shame around sustainability - folks who feel like if they can't afford the expensive things that say sustainabl
108: Clean Makeup with Christina Flach of Pretty Girl Makeup
This conversation with Christina Flach was gold! She is just a wealth of knowledge, experience and kindness. Christina is a Makeup Artist to the stars, and created a clean makeup that is night and day better than commercial makeup. She has a family, and was very vulnerable in sharing her trauma, but she has such a warmth and mentoring nature and has focused on helping others to honor her losses.Pretty Girl Makeup is Christina's product, and if you listen to the episode, she offers a hefty discou
107 Go Green with Alexa Pavan
I've been following Alexa Pavan for a long time on Instagram - I love everything she posts and stands for, and I was so thrilled when she said yes to a conversation! I may have been a little giddy talking with her... Usually I like to get the back story of a guest, and get to the point where their life changed to be more sustainable, but Alexa doesn't have that - she grew up in a pretty sustainable household, and just extended it to include the rest of the world. In her social media, she touches
106: The Schoolhouse Life - Homesteading with Lacey Grim
Whew, this conversation was so good! Lacey and her husband are homesteading in North Carolina, and I noticed they're in a town that I was actually really hoping to find a house in, so that felt kind of Kismet to start off - but there's just so much more that she does that resonates and interests me! My favorite thing we talked about was the food clubs they're organizing to help make sure their community has access to healthy, fresh, local food. How awesome is that? I'll be heading to visit them
105: Amanda Russo: The Breathing Goddess
I loved this conversation with Amanda Russo, talking about breathwork and how it can actually heal us if we give it the chance.I met Amanda just a couple of months ago, but we've been following each other for many months, so I'm excited to get some quality time with her. I'm inspired by her spontaneous nature, and her free spirit, and she is also SO intune to every moment.Amanda focuses on breathwork because when she tried it the first time she had such an impactful session that she had to learn
104: Vertical Farming Podcast and Life Shifts with Harry Duran
I tease Harry Duran about how we first connected, because it makes me feel good about my scrappiness as a podcaster. He wasn't mean, just way bigger than me - and he still is, we're just connected now, which I'm so grateful for!Harry's first podcast, Podcast Junkies just hit the 10 year mark recently, and I'm super grateful to have been a guest (see episode 332). If you remember the show Inside the Actor's Studio, with James Lipton, it's based on that, but for podcasters. There are so many podca
103: Autism Rocks and Rolls with Sam Mitchell
Sam Mitchell approached me, and was just so dynamic that I had to have him on the podcast to talk about Autism and his podcast Autism Rocks and Rolls, and you'll see why here!I definitely couldn't do any better putting Sam into words, so I'm copying these from his initial email: "I am a high-functioning human being on the autism spectrum, but have a mission: to show people that I am not broken, do not need to be fixed, there is no normal in this world, and I am successful, wi
102: Just Grow Something with Karin Velez
I've been listening to Karin Velez's podcast Just Grow Something for quite a while, because I love how she offers helpful, bite sized truth bombs about growing produce every episode - and she also has this voice that is so easy for me to listen to... Karin's story about where her podcast came from is fascinating, and she is offering super helpful info in all areas of growing food in bite sized amounts to help me understand how and why to make changes in my gardening practices. We a
101: Bigger Life Adventures with Carrie Hoffman
Man, I loved this conversation with Carrie Hoffman of Bigger Life Adventures! I was sold with sustainable travel, but this conversation is SO much more- Carrie lives the sustainable lifestyle - She lives on 10 acres in the mountains of Arizona! You can probably hear (and hopefully can tune out) the crackly sound, but she lives out in the open and that's our reality - if you can let go of that sound, you'll get her important messageAs a Trauma Informed Yoga Instructor, Carrie takes her

99: Looking Forward and Looking Back with Amy
I have a big request, you guys - I need some MALE people to give their perspective on menopause - I'm really doing it - I've been talking about the Menopause Panel since November/December, and it's finally happening. I'm so excited for these conversations, and to help people feel empowered and not feel broken when their body is changing in ways we aren't expecting; that we are not alone, and we don't need to quietly suffer with the changes. In talking, we learn ways
98: Energy Audits - Everything You Need to Know with Colin McCullough
Oh man, I learned SO much about energy audits from Colin McCullough! He's been doing audits for a long time, and is passionate about it. He is one of the very few people I've talked to who said he would do his job for free if he didn't need money to survive - that says so much to me about him. Energy Audits help you to see how to make your home more efficient - and it might not be what you think - it wasn't what I thought, at least... He also offers consulting services, so d
97: Laughter Yoga AND Worm Composting with Cathy Nesbitt
Oh my gosh, our friend Ande Lyons introduced us, and I was thrilled to get to talk to Cathy Nesbitt of Cathy's Composters about worm composting; I was told she also taught "Laughter Yoga," which I guess made sense, and was very curious about, but when I met Cathy on Zoom, I was instantly sold. Cathy has been teaching worm composting for over 2 decades (her WHY is so inspiring!), and has been teaching Laughter yoga for several years now - she has a weekly Chuckle Club zoom meeting
97: Mary Lewis and her Tiny Homestead
Mary Lewis has her own podcast called A Tiny Homestead, where she talks with other homesteaders and people doing "homestead-y" things... She's had some pretty impressive guests, like Joel Salatin and me... It makes me think of my plan before this podcast, so I'm loving following Mary to see how that goes!Mary's message that she's hoping you take away from this conversation: "take care of yourself, take care of the Earth, and always be curious-" you have to
96: ReStyle with Shelly Cunningham
Y'all, if this conversation with Shelly Cunningham doesn't make you want to shop at Consignment stores over cheaply made box store clothes, I don't know what will change your mind- I didn't know what I've been missing! Shelly bought ReStyle, a consignment boutique, 12 years ago, and moved it a couple of times, but is now settled on Rte 1 in Freeport heading toward Yarmouth. When she invited me to come and see her place, I was curious, but not being a clothing shopper, a
95: Save the Food with Monti Carlo
Have you guys seen Monti Carlo on Instagram? How about the Food Network or other Food TV shows? I feel so out of the loop; I've watched so little TV the last bunch of years that I didn't know she was on TV... BUT I found her on Instagram, and watched her great food saving tip reels. And then one day I saw her back story, and I had to learn more about her. She was so generous to accept my podcast invite, and share her knowledge and passion for food waste with us, and I'm so excited

Startup Farm Stories with Ben Whatley Part 2!
I met Ben Whatley officially in 2020, just as the Covid Pandemic was ramping up, and, as a farmer, Ben was reserving time at the commercial kitchen I used for my jam business, and was asked to help rent out, so we talked - and he was SO cool. So much to share, and so much knowledge and passion for caring for the earth he was responsible for. I felt that instantly, and he was one of my first thoughts when starting this podcast, because he is so open about a lot of things.Let me tell you I learned

Shoot, This moment has been a long time coming for me, and I couldn't be more happy to share this with you all - I'm such a big fan of Sonya Parenti - Miss Love Terra on Instagram, and her hard work to educate people and ask for mindfulness when purchasing cheap clothing, to be wary of its journey and consequences. 76: Jen Joray's Move from City to Eastern River Farm
I know I keep saying that this episode is SO good, but I really feel like it is - and this conversation is no different - I had such a great time talking to Jen Joray of Eastern River Farm - I loved hearing their process of going from city dwellers to farmers, because I feel like it's a dream of many - at least mine, but I have a feeling that others are feeling it, too. So this can be somewhat of a 'blueprint' of a path - or an example of how it can be done - and successfully! The
75: Your Story, Your Purpose, With Brenda Simmons
I was recently a guest on Brenda Simmons' podcast Be You: Your Story Your Purpose, and getting to know Brenda was such a nice time, and we really bonded over so many things, so we decided to continue the conversation over here. Brenda has so many things to talk about, like growing up close to her grandparents and learning from them, and the internships she did at school, how she's feeding her own family... we learned that we were both in Utah at the same time (I was only there for a y
74: Living and Playing in a Sustainable World with Barbara Tibbetts
Barbara Tibbetts and I met sort of by chance on Linkedin, when a friend (shout out to Ande Lyons!) tagged me in Barbara's post about the Sustainability event she hosted in Nantucket this summer, and we've been talking regularly ever since - we found that we have a lot in common; we're both trying to spread the word about sustainability and that we should all be making more of an effort...Here is a quote from her podcast guest form: "We can all make choices to live sustainably
73: Amy's Look Back at the Year, and Upcoming Changes and Episodes
This is my 2nd December - wow! This is a toughie, as I'm in a bit of a tender place these days, but most of this year has been pretty amazing, and I have so much to be grateful for - namely the incredible people I've had the honor of speaking with and learning from, and the great folks who keep the social media lively and a fun place to hang out - I love getting to know you all!The end of the year has taken a turn I hadn't expected, and I'll be making some changes of my own,
Bonus Replay: The Mother Thrifting Queen Dida Lang
I was all in to hear that Dida Lange was thrifting for a business, and I couldn't wait to hear all about how that worked, but when we were talking, she opened up this WHOLE other beautiful can of worms that changed everything for me. I cannot wait for y'all to hear how much heart Dida has for supporting thrift stores and church/yard sales and why. She has the best comeback story I've heard in a very long time, if ever, and how she is using it to empower others and change the world

72: Learning About a New Homesteading Journey with Kathryn Garland
Kathryn Garland is a super energetic mom, spouse and newer homesteader who is so real, and in the best way - I love how she lays it out. I also LOVE that she's in British Columbia. Literally on my tiny bucket list of 2 places I need to go someday! She shares a great message of start where you are and expand as you can, which is so simple, yet really works for everything, right? So profound. At least for me. Kathryn shares their beginning story, which is only about a year and a half, and how
71: A Conversation with Author of The Groundcover Revolution Kathy Jentz
Oh my gosh, this was such a fascinating conversation with Kathy Jentz! I learned so much about ground cover, talking about her new book that's out called Groundcover Revolution, and she also loves talking about Urban Gardening(her previous book is about this), since she lives just outside the city in Maryland, and her gorgeous cats - you know I love checking out everyones' cats (check out the YouTube video to see them all - they're huge and stunning!)! Sustainable Preparedness Talk With Brekke Wagoner
Brekke (rhymes with Becky) Wagoner's message with Sustainable Prepping is a little different than others and I'm so here for it! She's talking about preparing for a disaster or emergency, and just having a little extra to fall back on, to ease your mind in times of stress. In her own words, "With global climate change impacting our weather to be more intense more often, having an emergency preparedness plan isn’t just for doomsday preppers. 67: A Conversation with Tony Napolitano, CEO of Maine Community Solar!
You guys, this is a big deal - for me, at least. I think that solar energy is such an easy way to harness energy - it's just a big investment... Bonus: Happy International Podcasting Day! Special Episode Joined by Amy Lewis
Happy International Podcasting Day, everyone! 65: Sustainable Sensory Toys and More With Jennifer Stalley
I loved this conversation with Jennifer Stalley, whose life is just so interesting! Jennifer lives in California with her spouse and daughter, loves horses and gardening and works in marketing. 64 Stephanie Bolduc: A Woman of Environmental Passion!
This conversation was so fun for me, as I am enjoying so much getting to know Stephanie Bolduc, whose dad is my cousin. Stephanie is very involved in environmental issues, and she takes her footprint on the earth very seriously, but in the most gracious way. She has discovered foraging recently and really enjoys finding new uses and value in what we see outside. She is als

Nancy Chan's information that she shared was fascinating! Nancy works with Kori Krill Oil, and shares why Krill Oil is a better supplement than Fish Oil, which I've been taking for years, and how Kori is sustainably harvesting it. That alone was pretty great, but she has so much more to share!Remember, Nancy is talking with little ole me, and she was so patient while I asked my silly questions. I'm totally sold now, and can't wait to try Krill Oil. The website is here if you&

59: Get Crafty, Not Trashy with Liz McDade

57: Merge Impact's Ben Adolph and Beth Robertson Martin Talk Food Sustainability
Wow, this was an eye opening conversation for me! I realized that my expectation of food sustainability is very childish (child-like?), thinking that just growing good food and making sure that everyone can eat is all we need to know. Ben Adolph and Beth Robertson-Martin are the Co-Founders of Merge Impact, and they are crunching data to assist farmers in this food system "situation" that we're in, and thank goodness for that! 38: Sustainable Interior Design with Elizabeth Byler
Have you heard of Sustainable Interior Design? I think I had heard the phrase, but in my head I assumed it meant buying expensive, really well made products.
