An incident involving drug abusers caused him and his backup deputies to be accidentally exposed to Fentanyl. The effects on them were immediate, had it not been for the department-issued Narcan and training they received, they all might have perished. However, the exposure caused permanent injuries to his heart.  He talks about the incident, the recovery, his battles with Worker's Compensation, and the rarely talked about the crime problem in their tourist-driven resort area.
