I remember laughing at the ridiculousness of the story. But it was never a favorite. I mean, seriously, why would anyone try to kill a cat. I just found that rather disturbing. So when I started working on my Irish Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers CD, I decided to flip the song upside down. I rewrote the lyrics of "The Moonshiner". I learned from the Bedlam Bards. I retold the story from the cat's perspective. This was one of my first toe-dip into writing a call-and-response drinking song.
