Today is National Mountain Day? What???
Your kidding right?
Let me double check this...
I've got to say this quite the coincidence. Yesterday being S'mores day while I'm camping in the wilderness and now today is National Mountain Day – quite literally. I’m out here camping in the mountains, surrounded by towering peaks, pine-scented air, and the sounds of nature all around me. It’s only fitting, because that today is Mountain Day, a day that celebrates the beauty and majesty of these natural giants.
And yes... I've confirmed it is National Mountain Day but I just noticed that it is also National Son and Daughter day. And our son and daughters are also here camping in the mountains after carrying heavy backpacks that are almost as big as they are!
Happy Son and Daughter Day kiddos... great work.
There’s something about being in the mountains that puts everything into perspective. Maybe it’s the way they make you feel small in the grand scheme of things, or the way they remind you of how life itself is a series of climbs, sometimes steep and exhausting, but always rewarding when you reach a new height.
It got me thinking about a quote by the poet Matsuo Basho, who once said,
“Every day is a journey, and the journey itself is home.”
Out here, far from the noise and rush of everyday life, that quote resonates deeply. The mountains have a way of stripping away the unimportant and bringing you back to what really matters. It’s not just about where you’re headed, but about the path you’re on right now – the journey itself.
Mountain Day reminds us to appreciate the climb, the struggles, and the beauty that comes with it. Just like in life, every mountain you face has its challenges, but it’s also filled with moments of awe, peace, and clarity. Being here, surrounded by such raw and untouched beauty, makes you realize that the journey is the destination. The mountains teach us that there’s value in every step, every pause to catch your breath, and every view that takes it away.
So today, whether you’re in the mountains or just dreaming of them, remember that every day is a journey. Embrace the climb, find joy in the challenges, and know that in this moment, wherever you are, you’re already home.
And although I do appreciate the deep meaning of that quote... I can't wait to get to may actually home for a real bed.
Man... will I sleep well tonight!
