Welcome to The Daily Quote—a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I’m your host, Andrew McGivern, for February 14th.
Now, February 14th is, of course, Valentine’s Day—a day filled with love, overpriced flowers, and last-minute chocolate runs. But for me, it’s a double whammy because it’s also my wife’s birthday. So while most people are trying to impress their significant other with grand romantic gestures, I’m over here making sure I don’t mess up twice in one day. No pressure, right?
With that in mind, today’s quote comes from Victor Hugo, the legendary writer behind Les Misérables and The Hunchback of Notre-Dame:
Victor Hugo once said,
"The greatest happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved—loved for ourselves, or rather, loved in spite of ourselves."
Now, that’s a real love quote. Because let’s be honest—being loved for who you really are is one of the best feelings in the world. Not just for your best moments, but also for the times when you’re grumpy, forget important dates (which I definitely won’t do today), or accidentally eat the last piece of cake without realizing it was someone else’s. Love isn’t about perfection. It’s about knowing that, despite all your quirks, bad habits, and questionable fashion choices, someone still chooses you every day.
And that’s the kind of love worth celebrating—not just on Valentine’s Day, but every day. So, whether you’re spending today with a partner, your best friends, your family, or just treating yourself, remember: real love isn’t about grand gestures—it’s about being seen, accepted, and appreciated exactly as you are. That’s it for today’s episode of The Daily Quote.
I’ll see you tomorrow, same pod time, same pod station, for another Daily Quote!
