Episode • Jun 28, 2024 • 1h 4m
I had a great conversation with my good buddy, Andy. Andy shared his background, revealing that he grew up in the Lansing area before moving to Traverse City, where he has lived most of his life. We delved into his hunting journey, starting with rifle hunting at a social club and later transitioning to bow hunting thanks to his friends.
Andy then shared his experience of starting his own podcast, inspired by his love for deer camps and the camaraderie they bring. He talked about the challenges of podcasting, particularly scheduling guests, and the rewarding aspects, such as meeting new people and forming lasting friendships.
We discussed the differences between guided hunts and do-it-yourself hunts, with Andy sharing his experiences hunting in various states like Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky, and Texas. He expressed a preference for the process and satisfaction of do-it-yourself hunts.
The conversation shifted to the hunting scene in Northern Michigan, where Andy noted the positive impact of antler point restrictions (APRs) over the past 20 years. He mentioned the increase in deer population and quality, although hunting pressure has also increased.
Andy shared his thoughts on the Mitch Rompola buck and the skepticism surrounding it.
Finally, we discussed Andy's Habitat Day event, which showcased various habitat management techniques and products
