Hey Chris, check out the Atari VCS base for your garage machine. Forget the built-in OS; put in an M2, upgrade the RAM if you need to, disable the built-in MMC, and boot straight to whatever Linux. The factory OS is based on Debian, so everything works flawlessly, from Bluetooth to Gigibit ethernet. PLUS IT'S AN ATARI!!! At $200 it's hard to beat this little Ryzen-based box. https://atari.com/products/atari-vcs-base

I have a Framework as well and I love it! Plus it works great with NixOS. There's even a hardware profile for it over on GitHub called "nix-hardware". I've had mine for about 5 months now and I love it 100%, even just as a laptop. I haven't had to repair anything on it yet, which is also good. No repairs needed in the first place is better than a good repair experience. Also a massive +1 to Obtainium. It has an export/import feature that allows easy migration to a new phone/OS. I use F-Droid to find applications, then install them through Obtainium.

As a fellow Mike, plus one on the BeeLink and Sceptre display setup. My weekend workstation in my home office is a BeeLink nuc and dual Sceptre displays. Nothing facny, it just boots into Linux Mint in under 30 seconds and I can get right to work. I've only had the BeeLink for about three months but so far it's been rock solid.

Thanks for the mention! Also, I do host some services on a dynamic IP. I created a container to auto update my DNS on Linode with https://github.com/BeardedTek/linode-dyndns

my isp gives me a dynamic IP. I use mac spoofing on opnsense in a VM. as long as I am not offline for to long or shows a different mac I hold my IP for at least 5 or 8 years now.. even moving the VM to different servers and switch the network cable ;-)
