On Monday the North Carolina State Senate debated, voted and passed along party lines a bill on school vouchers which also ties immigration to the voucher program for opportunity scholarships in what is now known as House Bill 10 which passed. This bill calls for $248 million in nonrecurring funds for Opportunity scholarships for all students attending private schools while also adding another $215 million in recurring funds. In addition to school vouchers, this bill mandates local sheriffs to honor ICE detention requests in some situations.
