Candles can be toxic. Many are made with paraffin wax, which is a petroleum by-product and can release carcinogenic soot when burned. Soot can cause respiratory problems and will aggravate the conditions of those who already have asthma, lung, or heart problems. Many are also scented with synthetic oils which can irritate your lungs and could cause other health problems. Some candles have lead in their wicks which can be even more toxic. Exposure to high amounts of lead has been linked to hormone disruption, behavioral problems, learning disabilities, and numerous health problems. In this podcast, we chat with Katie Roering, owner of Fontana Candle Company. We discuss the ingredients in traditional candles that can be harmful to your health and your indoor air quality. Katie never set out to own a candle company. She is an entrepreneur at heart and was running her dream dog training and grooming center when she got sick. So sick, that she had to sell her shares of the company. She intended to take a year off from work to heal but ended up needing 3 years to regain her health from what she discovered to be mold toxicity. Health and wellness became an important pillar of her life. Candles entered the picture when she was gifted with a conventional candle for Christmas and burning the candle made both her and her husband Eric feel sick. That led them into researching candles and making their own as a hobby. That was when Fontana Candle Co. was born. https://www.facebook.com/FontanaCandleCompany https://www.instagram.com/fontanacandlecompany/ www.fontanacandlecompany.com Follow the Green Living Gurus: Website and blog www.thegreenlivinggurus.com Facebook Healthy Living Group Facebook Green Living Gurus Page Instagram YouTube Services For further info contact: Therese Forton-Barnes email: Greenlivinggurus@gmail.com Cell 716-868-8868
