Building Fountain and Streaming Value with Podcasting 2.0 with Oscar Merry
I talk with Oscar Merry, co-founder of Fountain, one of the most popular Podcasting 2.0 apps.
We talk about the future of open podcasting and breaking out from the walled gardens of big tech, how the Bitcoin Lightning Network can enable streaming value directly to content creators, and we also discuss some of the upcoming features that the Fountain team are working on.
Fountain has been a big part of the journey of this show, with many of you supporting my work from the beginning by streaming satoshis and commenting on episodes which gave me a lot of encouragement to keep doing the proof of work.

How long have you had the righteous beard?
You've been in Bitcoin since 2015 and homesteading since 2022. Can you give some highlights of yourself and what you do?
Your YouTube channel focuses on bitcoin mining, solar, homesteading and Tesla. Why those focuses? Are these independent or overlapping?
Why did you start homesteading and how long have you been doing it?
Where do you fall on the bitcoiner spectrum?
Having followed your work it seems that you often push back on certain narratives which float around the world of bitcoin. What are your main areas of concern?
How do you hope to see bitcoin develop going forward?
What projects are you working on that you would like to highlight?
What is your opinion of the bitcoin citadel concept?
Final thoughts?

Bitcoin, Nostr & Freedom Tech with Matt Odell
“Freedom dies by people just taking a little bit more and a little bit more… we just end up in a situation people are like ‘How the fuck did we end up here?’ And at some point down the line you have to practice civil disobedience and say: ‘No, I will not fucking comply.’”— Matt OdellMatt Odell is host of Citadel Dispatch, co-host of Rabbit Hole Recap, managing partner at Ten31 and co-founder of OpenSats and Bitcoin Park. In this interview, we discuss Bitcoin conferences and podcasts, the importance of decentralized tech, the implications of identity verification on social media, Nostr’s potential as a censorship-resistant social network, and the involvement of BlackRock in Bitcoin.- - - - Matt Odell is the Bitcoiners Bitcoiner: mission-driven, innovative, generous and yet unyielding in his expectations of the community. Given he’s a fellow podcaster and conference veteran, it was an invaluable opportunity to talk shop, but his wide-ranging expertise means we could again cover a plethora of current hot topics.Matt discussed his views on the surge in global Bitcoin conferences and the changing landscape of Bitcoin podcasts. The boom in events, catering to various niches within the Bitcoin community, is a testament to the growth and diversity of this space. Podcasts too need to stand out from the crowd, whilst taking on mainstream content providers in terms of interviewing adroitness and production quality. We discussed the pros and cons of having a blue checkmark on Twitter: whilst it can help users identify and connect with influential people, there are material concerns about the current identity verification system. The corollary to concerns about traditional social media companies is the potential to disintermediate these closed centralised systems with innovations like Nostr. Together with Bitcoin, Nostr could be a powerful tool for freedom movements. Matt covered the critical importance of educating people on the risks and benefits of decentralization. Individuals with platforms and audiences should explain these risks to lessen the impact and pain that people may experience in a dark dystopian future where censorship and control are prevalent. Finally, Matt provided his take on BlackRock's involvement in Bitcoin. Blackrock is the institution that Bitcoin was designed to resist. However, their involvement is a paradigm shift for Bitcoin’s narrative. Nevertheless, there are risks tied to the proposed Blackrock Bitcoin ETF. It's essential to learn how to hold self-custody of your Bitcoin instead of buying a paper claim. And further, it’s important Blackrock understand they can’t control Bitcoin.- - - - This episode’s sponsors:Iris Energy - Bitcoin Mining. there *are* issues with the MK3 reproducible builds, using the Coinkite script and following the Coinkite instructions. it appears to be very minor (just a time/date stamp) but that does mean by the strict definition several MK3 builds are not reproducible. (although the latest build appears fixed now) Stop gaslighting people that they're too stupid to copy/paste a couple of simple cli commands. You are making even big fans of yours nervous by being gaslighty and disingenuous on this issue.
