Woody Guthrie - This Land Is Your Land

Woody Guthrie - This Land Is Your Land

Songs of Our Own: A Marital Tour of the Music That Shaped Us.

Greetings All!  This months bonus episode is on Woody Guthrie's "This Land is Your Land" a song I'm sure most of our listeners here in the United States can remember singing in elementary school.  We compare Woody's 1940 version, the Avett Brothers 2020 version and Tom Morello as the Nightwatchman's live version.  We discuss the often omitted fourth and sixth verses and their overall impact to the song, if this land is in fact "made for you and me", how a songs meaning can change once it is censored, and how the heck this very political song became an elementary school sing along staple.  As always thank you for listening!
