Just wanted to Boostan to say that iOS supports using Nextcloud for your contacts and calendar natively. He uses the same behind-the-scenes technology, WebDAV. My wife and I use it to have a shared calendar for our bills and upcoming things for the family. We also both use it for our contacts , because like you I no longer trust any of the big companies to handle that data. For now, Apple still makes it pretty easy to not share your information with them if you choose.

RE Hive & Podping. I think Dave and Adam are welcoming of other crypto, if they have devs join who are willing to do the work (much like Brian of London did with Hive). Of the ~10k v4v feeds >75% are actually 3Speak RSS feeds from Hive, so technically they have more v4v adoption than BTC afficionados.
@meremortalspodcast
27 Nov
If anyone wants an example type 'meremortals' as one word into a P2.0 app and you'll find a 3Speak channel I created as a tester. It's a low res video clips feed that receives sats and converts them into Hive through some wizardry that Brian of London did.

Thanks for the kind words Chris 🥰. RE: Fountain trying to trap you. I wouldn't be too concerned about this as there does need to be an incentive to work as hard as he can to make an awesome app, but I believe him and Nick have shown their bonafides to the P2.0 mission. Yes god yes! Clipping needs some love. The book mark is a great idea and I’ve suggested similar things to them in the beta group. When you hit the clip button, it gives you a six minute spread (three minutes to either side of your current time) It would be nice to have a prompt after I hit clip to say if the position I hit is at the end of where I want it or mid clip. Right now it’s a balancing act of trying to get a good chunk of audio. A bit of refinement would go a long way.

Honestly, out of all the apps and messengers that have attempted stories in the past, Signal seems like the least offensive to me. It's the first app to attemp stories, that actually respects user privacy. All the others in the past (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) just seem like they were trying to copy Snapchat and hobble user data. At least with signal, there's a privacy aspect to it. I just don't see the userbase adopting it.

The one downside to boosts is that, sometimes when you hear your own boost out loud you think: "Wow, I sound like a jerk!" If you end up with your own new feeds and new CDNs, may as well complete the Podcasting 2.0 transition for JB: TNG ;) Also, will there still be separate premium feeds for paid subscriptions? Extra special exclusive feeds for big BTC boosters? Just throwing that out there (but in that case, make sure your LN node stays up!)--keep up the good work 👍

Something I've noticed as a listener is that, on your road trips, you try to cram a bunch of travelling into a short period of time. What if you tried to space out the trips and stay in places for a bit longer, or you drive shorter distances at a time? Also, how large a of project it would be to just loose the remote connection to the studio, and just do all the recording in the RV? To me, that sounds like it would solve many issues

I wish there was a more granular way in Fountain to determine which podcasts I earn Sats on, and which ones I spend sats on. I would throw all my "earning" on podcasts that don't support Lightning/boosts, but turn off earning for the podcasts that do. I don't feel like I really earn the sats when they're getting streamed right back out. Also do you know if streaming counts towards your flow? I haven't been able to determine that
@rastacalavera
3 Oct
flow is gone. earnings occur only during the first hour of listening. earning amount is random every 24 hours. you could expand out to feel better about earning. I listen to news podcast that aren’t on the lightening network so I stay informed and earn, then switch on streaming and do boosts for my core lightening shows like the JB stuff.

I wrote an issue on jb/network on GitHub to explain what I have done to reach a rather good quality connection. And it’s easy to reproduce as I just had to fix one tiny bit on an already working solution, because of the channel names on mumble.

To be honest, I've been getting some boost fatigue too. Not because I dislike "crypto". Mostly because of boosts getting missed or nodes being down. I know it's still early days, but it's a bit frustrating. I also think that if you read a boost and attach someone's name to it as if you're quoting them, you should read it exactly without paraphrasing. That might just be a small pet peeve of mine that nobody else has. I still listen to everything JB, but I might slow down boosting for a bit.

Still seems difficult to find the show via normal searching, but your clip in Fountain definitely made it easier to find! Congrats on the new site, great to see the fruit of your (and the community's) effort!

I just saw https://blog.getalby.com/saturn/ and couldn’t think of a better way to show it to you than via a boost :) Curious what you think of it. BTW, I’m genebean when not on Fountain… it’s dead set on using my Twitter handle.

Relatively inexperienced Linux user who started listening to the podcasts 2 years ago when lockdown happened in the UK. Think the fountain idea of earning and rewarding SATs is a great idea for the podcast economy so a small token to say thanks as my first boost ever.

Now with Hugo deployment out of the way, any plans for a JB forum? I wonder how in the loop you are with free and open source forum software, got a favorite? I myself am currently getting ready to set up Flarum for my own community

Hey everyone luv the new site. Question: I was thinking have you thought about starting a matrix voice chat bridged with Mumble? My reason behind it that I am forced to use an iOS device and when you live , most of the time that’s the only device available for me and the microphone and voice isolation is good enough for participation, however there is no mumble for iOS . (or if there is it’s horrible.)

Took your advice and use Fountain to gain stats. UK bank not allowing me to buy bitcoin etc. Also, your member podcast versions of the shows not set up to accept sats/boosts. Had to find the public versions ro do this. Don't read into the number of sats, it's all I've earned so far.

I'm trying to reach out to non-techie podcasts that I like about podcasting 2.0 and value for value. It would be amazing if this was a more commonplace method of donating and helping fund projects, entertainment, art, or whatever. I don't know how everything works on the back end, but I worry it might be too technical to self host, or seem too scammy for 3rd parties to manage for them. Any tips for getting regular non-technical content creators on the podcasting 2.0 bandwagon?

Thanks for the thoughtful reply on the show regarding crypto bros. You are right, I was not at all familiar with the enterprise Linux seen in the late 90s and early 00s. While the gold rush in broad strokes might similar effects, I still think there’s a difference between how people look at a technology like an operating system and a financial technology like Bitcoin and crypto. Still, I’m very happy to see crypto helping podcasts. The boosts are a fun way to make the show feel more interactive!

Totally 100% agree with reading boosts (or email for that matter) based on content quality (as opposed to sats minimum) as a way to battle boost fatigue. I get the baller boosts. It also just seems like a transitional issue; in a future where boosts are common place, you're only going to be able to read a small portion of select boosts on the air anyway and won't have to be advertising the technology either. Long time JB listener, first time booster. Keep crushing! You guys rock! -- gerberad

Wanted to boost in to support the show so we don’t have to listen to Brent talk about Manscape, Chris about Raid Shadow Legends, or Wes about Ridge wallets. ha ha.

🏃‍♂️💯🔥 like your ideas for boosts. maybe read out most in the post show? BTW when Brent said cautiously curious, that would be a great title for a show segment in SSH or something. keep on keeping on, go Podcasting! 🫳🎤 long live the 🅱️👻st

I like the idea of reading out more boosts in the post show. Not only does that sweeten the pot for members, but it always more audience participation in the show.

2GB Boost! Top four and baller seems like a great plan to see where things land with the audience. I would also like to ask: With the new site, have you considered a JB Blog at all? Maybe covers things that dont make it into some shows, or just as some extra extras?

Brent hope you are ready for the cotton wood clean at the studio! I am purging some of my non-JB podcasts and I am thinking about unfollowing any podcaster with auto-fill ads. I am getting Spanish ads in an English podcaster. Why! the podcaster is okay(no Chris, but okay). should we just start unfollowing podcasters that have auto fill ads?
