We’re back on the chain, and in this episode I got to settle back into the rhythm of the show with a wide-ranging conversation about Phish, podcasting milestones, and the strange emotional gravity of the number 100. We reflected on how reaching a hundred of anything feels meaningful—whether it’s shows attended, podcast episodes recorded, or rare New Year’s run oddities—and that opened the door to a bigger conversation about what makes certain moments in Phish history feel ceremonial. From Jacksonville’s explosive setlist and the band’s current run of standout versions of songs like “Ghost,” to the symbolic weight of encores like “Sleeping Monkey,” we explored how Phish signals when something special is happening and why fans are so attuned to those cues.We also got deep into the evolution of the band’s sound, especially around newer jam vehicles like “What’s Going Through Your Mind,” and whether certain songs feel like a passing of the torch to a younger generation of fans. Along the way, we connected live music, psychedelics, conviction, blind spots, intuition, and power—trying to make sense of how transformative experiences at shows can sharpen the way we see ourselves and the world. It was one of those conversations that moved fluidly from setlists and tour talk into legacy, self-knowledge, and the ongoing search for what still feels true when everything gets shaken up.
