Exploring Occult Germany with Christopher McIntosh Join Allen Marcus and Benjamin Balderson in conversation with Christopher McIntosh, author of Occult Germany and Occult Russia, for a wide-ranging exploration of Germanic mysticism, Nordic mythology, and Europe’s esoteric heritage. Based in Germany, McIntosh discusses his work, his website ozgard.net, and the meaning behind the name “Ozgard”—a synthesis of Asgard from Norse mythology and Oz from The Wizard of Oz, reflecting his interest in mythology, symbolism, and the imagination. The conversation explores the distinctions between Nordic and Germanic mythology, including differing portrayals of figures such as Odin and Balder. McIntosh also shares insights into his translation of early German Rosicrucian documents and the challenges of producing accurate and reliable translations of esoteric texts. From the Rosicrucian movement and alchemical traditions to the spiritual influence of Rudolf Steiner, this discussion examines Germany’s rich mystical heritage. The conversation also considers the relationship between spiritual and material dimensions in Germanic traditions, as well as the enduring cultural significance of trees, forests, and sacred sites such as the Donar Oak and the Irminsul. Allen Marcus, Benjamin Balderson, and Christopher McIntosh further discuss the effects of Christianization, historical guilt, and cultural disruption on modern German attitudes toward ancestral spirituality. They explore the preservation of cultural memory, the continuing reverence for nature, and the challenges of reconnecting with Germanic roots. The discussion concludes with reflections on the portrayal of Norse mythology in popular culture, the complex nature of Loki, the concept of evil, and the diverse interpretations found within the Ásatrú community. McIntosh also speaks about his book Beyond the North Wind, which examines the enduring mystery and historical significance of the North. Join us for an illuminating conversation on Germanic and Nordic mythology, Rosicrucianism, alchemy, spirituality, and the esoteric traditions of Europe. Christopher McIntosh’s work and website The meaning and symbolism of “Ozgard” Nordic and Germanic mythology Rosicrucian documents and translation German alchemy and esoteric traditions Rudolf Steiner and spiritual philosophy The cultural significance of trees and forests The Donar Oak and the Irminsul Christianization and the loss of Germanic spirituality German cultural memory and ancestral heritage Norse mythology in popular culture Loki and the concept of evil Modern Ásatrú and materialism Living off-grid in Germany Beyond the North Wind and the mystique of the NorthAudio recorded live Saturday nights and streamed to:https://rokfin.com/OdinsAlchemy(00:00:02) Introduction and Guest Announcement(00:00:46) Guest Introduction: Christopher Macintosh(00:01:24) Christopher Macintosh's Work and Website(00:02:24) Meaning Behind 'Ozgard'(00:03:36) Symbolism in 'The Wizard of Oz'(00:04:08) Nordic vs. Germanic Mythology(00:09:00) Translating Rosicrucian Documents(00:15:19) Rosicrucian Movement and Its Influence(00:22:34) Modern Alchemy and Germanic Traditions(00:28:19) Rudolf Steiner and Spirituality(00:34:01) Germanic Yearning for Spirituality(00:39:08) Christianization and Loss of Germanic Spirituality(00:45:10) German Reverence for Trees and Forests(00:51:37) Scientific and Mystical Convergence(00:56:10) Viking Raids and Christianization(01:00:14) German Cultural Memory and Heritage(01:07:04) Islamic Influence on Germanic and Norse Cultures(01:14:10) Vandalism of Wotan Statue(01:18:00) Living Off-Grid in Germany(01:21:09) Asatru in Iceland(01:24:42) Materialism in Modern Asatru(01:28:26) Loki and the Concept of Evil(01:31:08) Sacrifice in Germanic Traditions(01:35:02) Conclusion and Future Discussions - allen marcushttps://serve.podhome.fm/weaving-spiders-webshttps://serve.podhome.fm/episodepage/weaving-spiders-webs/christopher-mcintosh
