The domain name btc.us absolutely is used in Nostr Names. It's in the proposal. Larry even mentions it on his website. You have to use the centralized btc.us website to buy a subdomain name or you have to learn the clarity language and interact with the smart contract to register the subdomain on btc.us. It's part of it.

There’s no need to learn clarity to use BNS - there are a few libraries in commonly used programming languages for developers. There’s also no reason we have to only use BNS - any name system where the user custodies their own name would work. Not your keys, not your identity!

You can use any client or wallet to register a name you want. I forked btc.us to make a client that asks for your nostr account pub key when you buy a name to make it easier to link your nostr account. You could even fork my fork and run it on nostrplebs.com and sell names for lightning perhaps with an integration with lnswap.org!
