LINUX Unplugged

We dig into Shufflecake, a tool that lets Linux users hide data with plausible deniability, then let our live stream SSH into our server and see if they can discover our secret data.

Plus, we follow up on Brent's never-ending desktop distro search and Chris' new Linux rig.

John A. used insider information to mess up the pronunciation of gif (it's like gift without the "") so here's my retort. Side note: the GTK project in question is has a name that has an established pronunciation: https:// www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/gnome

Well, that was a mistake. Let's try again. These sats are for the hard G in.... Gnome. and by that, I mean pronounced "J-nome" (JK, I really like "Nome" better.) As for Dylan's laptop, why not just boring old Ubuntu? On an LTS, possibly. His needs don't seem that high. Or the distro he had before Fedora (elementary?) Keep the extra sats, let's beat that other podcast. I just wanna hear Janeway again 😜

Debian has worked excellent as a htpc box for me, and if you run testing you get some pretty recent and quick updates. Plus, works beautifully with zfs, including as a raid 1 boot/root. Give it a shot! Way less BS compared to others.

I know you're *technically not supposed to do this, but I've been running debian sid for 3 ish years as a software engineer (don't tell Canada xD) and it's been fantastic. add a timeshift backup, and it's been no less stable for me than Ubuntu.

Long time listener, first time booster! Recently got caught up on office hours and it's inspired me to get a domain and try and build a blog on Hugo, especially after some trials and tribulations in building my first custom keyboard with a hodgepodge of parts thanks to a lack of stock. Love all your projects and the discussions around what's a good desktop and what's a good server platform - really insightful, especially oddities like the arch server experiment.

I would like to let people now about NAS from qnap, trustmaster and Asustor. Where it's possible to install os like Truenas SCALE or Ubuntu. I learned it from the YouTube channel NASCompares. He has several videos showing how to install, power consumption and even video capabilities. I am interested in QNAP TS-464 4 bays. It got 2 NVME slots one could be for OS and a pci-e slot, 4 cores and up to 16GB ram. As a cheap allways running (got WoL aswell) and small it seems like a good solution.

Comin in hawt with the bewst! So i can keep up my boosts, i got a decent amount so ill have some for a bit. On the topic of Family Support, i wish that i could convince my older hardware home to move over so I could support them, but, they have needs that require Windows (i tried using Bottles and Wine for her software needs, but, was unsuccessful). Also, for those with better opinions than mine, i am seeking new a new distro home. I am on 6th gen i7 and a RTX 2060. Debian seems alright, but...

I have hit that cynical point where I mostly don't have much of a desktop. No Display Manager. No DE. Just my TTY and a window manager. Keeping things simple prevents a lot of frustration for me. I'm not exactly suckless but the less you have, the less you break

Since you asked, mom runs Arch, dad and sister run windows. I'd like to move my mom and myself to nixos, but Arch has been surprisingly stable for both of us so I haven't made the time.
